FunSongs at Didacta and TESOL

March was a busy month for FunSongs. From 11th to 14th March Charles Goodger was at the VoiceBooks stand at DIDACTA, the international educational trade fair held in Florence. FunSongs is now working with VoiceBooks and MLF Stories on a joint venture called CHARMS. The aim here is to provide schools and teachers of English to YLs with an exciting multi-faceted resource. CHARMS combines the didactic power of action songs with Anthony Green’s ground-breaking method of improving English comprehension through gamification – Voicebooks – as well as Michael Lacey Freeman’s captivating reader stories for young learners. Charles and Anthony presented the first CHARM resource entitled Best for the World. There was considerable interest in the initiative.

Anthony Green and Charles Goodger then flew to Burgos University in Northern Spain to hold educational workshops for English teachers at TESOL Spain, the annual national conference for teachers of English. The event, as always well organized and well attended, provided a useful opportunity to make contacts, present FunSongs and Voicebooks and incite interest in the lastest developments in ELT, including a wonderful plenary by the President of IAETEFL Poland, Rob Howard on how teachers should make use of AI. Another workshop of particular interest was the one by Daniel Martin on using ChatGPT in the classroom.

  1. What a great gathering of enthusiastic teachers and speakers that was. I have known Charles Goodger for many years and attended his session in Burgos Spain where he combined research on language acquisition and memorization and practical examples from the FunSongs method for a large audience. As a well seasoned teacher trainer myself, I can testify that it really works. Not just only because of the science supporting it, but also because of the high quality of the songs, which is as equally important.
